In order to promote the academic exchange, development and innovation of international palaeogeography and related disciplines, and to promote furthermore the construction and development of the Journal of Palaeogeography and thus develop it into a prestigious international periodical, the 3rd International Palaeogeography Conference will be held from September 23 to 25, 2017 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

The organizing committee is composed of representatives from all sponsors and is primarily responsible for the organization and for raising funds for the conference.

The scientific committee is composed of the members of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Palaeogeography and some international and domestic specialists in palaeogeography. The committee is responsible for the acquisition of manuscripts, their review and their publication; the committee will also evaluate the scientific level of the conference and the Journal of Palaeogeography, and discuss the development of international palaeogeography in the future.

8. Invitation and submission of papers
The conference sincerely invites those Earth scientists from China and abroad who are involved in or with interest in palaeogeography to attend the conference and welcomes them to submit one or more manuscripts.
To guarantee the academic quality of manuscripts which will be presented at the conference, it is required that those who wish to present their manuscripts orally at the conference are encouraged to submit a publishable version of their manuscripts in English according to the general regulations concerning the submission of manuscripts to the Journal of Palaeogeography before August 1st, 2017. Chinese authors should also submit a Chinese Abstract in addition to the full text in English.
The sooner the manuscripts are submitted, the better. The scientific committee of the conference will send out the submitted manuscripts for review and then return the reviewing comments to the authors for revising timely. Once the manuscripts are well-revised and accepted, they will be published in the Journal of Palaeogeography as early as possible.
All the abstracts will be compiled into an Abstracts of the 3rd International Palaeogeography Conference (in English and Chinese) after receiving all the revised full texts of the manuscripts. The accepted manuscripts will be arranged for oral presentation at the conference and the corresponding authors will be granted exemption from the conference registration fee.
10 to 15 specialists from China and abroad will be invited to attend the conference with their full text manustripts submitted to the conference. When the manuscripts are accepted after peer-reviewing, the registration fee, accommodation fee and post-conference field excursion fee will be covered by the conference. Round-trip airline tickets (economic class) for specialists from foreign countries will be covered by the conference. Round-trip railway tickets or airline tickets (economic class) for domestic specialists will be covered by the conference as well.
3 to 5 self-recommended specialists from China and abroad will be invited to attend the conference as long as they submit their full text mauscripts to the conference and the manuscripts being accepted after peer-reviewing. Their registration fee, accommodation fee and post-conference field excursion fee will be covered by the conference. Round-trip airline tickets (economic class) for specialits from foreign countries will be covered by the conference. Round-trip railway tickets or airline tickets (economic class) for domestic specialists will be covered by the conference as well.
For retired domestic specialists who submit their high-quality full text manuscripts to the conference, their registration fee, accommodation fee, post-conference field excursion fee and their round-trip railway or airline tickets (economic class) will be covered by the conference.
The accepted manuscripts will be given publication priority in the Journal of Palaeogeography.
9. Awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students
The conference will award the best presentations by young scientists/students, taking into account the following considerations:
1) Authors should submit the full texts (in English) of their manuscripts according to the above-mentioned requirements, revise their manuscripts according to the reviewing comments and send back their revised manuscripts to the conference on time, and submit 5 copies of the full texts of their final manuscripts before attending the conference;
2) Only the first (corresponding) author of a manuscript can apply for this award;
3) The applicant should be less than 40 years old;
4) The applicant should present the manuscripts at the conference orally.
Awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students will consist of a certificate, monographs, as well as exemption from the post-conference field excursion fee.
The conference sincerely invites specialists of palaeogeography and related disciplines to donate 5 copies of monographs as awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students.
10. Oral and poster presentations
Three days of conference will be scheduled on 23rd–25th September, 2017.
The technical programme includes oral presentations as well as poster presentations. Further details about the schedule will be provided in Second Circular.
The official language at the conference will be English.
11. Meetings of the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee
The meetings of the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee will be held during the conference to evaluate the scientific level of the conference and the Journal of Palaeogeography, discuss and determine the date, venue and host institutions of the 4th International Palaeogeography Conference, and to discuss the future international development of palaeogeography.
12. Field excursions
The mid-conference field excursion is to the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project (Afternoon in 24th September, free of charge).
Three post-conference field excursions are selectable:
1) Field excursion to the Emei Mountain geologic section (26th–28th September, 3 days, about 2500 CNY)
2) Field excursion to the Early Cambrian geologic section in Micangshan National Natural Reserve Area (September 26th–28th, 3 days, about 2500 CNY)
3) Field excursion to the Triassic geologic section in Chuanzhusi, Songpan county (26th–29th, 4 days, about 3500 CNY)
14. Fees
1) Registration fee (including the conference dinner fee): 2600 yuan or about 420 USD; student rate: 1300 CNY; accompany member rate: 1300 CNY;
2) Accommodation fee:
Shiyouyuan Hotel at Southwest Petroleum University, standard room with two beds: about 216 CNY/day;
Xingang Hotel, standard room with two beds (outside the university): about 198 CNY/day;
Holiday Hotel in Xindu District, standard room with two beds (outside the university): 460 CNY/day.
15. Important deadlines
1) The receipt of the First Circular should be sent back before 1st May.
2) Submission time for full text manuscript: before August 1st, the earlier the better.
3) The Second Circular will be distributed and sent out in June, 2017.
4) The Third Circular will be distributed and sent out in September, 2017.
5) The Abstracts of the 3rd International Palaeogeography Conference (in English and Chinese) will be printed before the conference.
6) The Scientific Programme of the 3rd International Palaeogeography Conference (in English and Chinese) will be printed before the conference.
