Review on the 1st-17th Academic Forum on Palaeogeography

Abstract The Academic Forum on Palaeogeography,which is mainly organized by the editorial departments of Journal of Palaeogeography in Chinese and English,jointly with the Professional Committee of Lithofacies Palaeogeography of Chinese Society of Mineralogy,Petrology and Geochemistry,International Palaeogeography Society and China University of Petroleum(Beijing),is an academic organization to promote the innovation and development of palaeogeography and advocate academic exchanges. From the beginning of the Forum in September 2022 to January 2024,a total of 17 sessions were held,and 21 experts and scholars(including four foreign experts)were invited to make oral presentations in the forum. The content of the oral reports was closely related with production practice and scientific research frontier,including the review of sedimentary palaeogeography from a strategic position,the sedimentary system and sedimentary environment,source-sink system,sequence stratigraphy and deep-water environment that are closely related with petroleum exploration,the deep palaeoenvironment reonstruction related studies including event sedimentation,ichnofacies and ichnoassemblages,paleo-wildfire,carbonate sedimentation,tectono-palaeogeography,and mineral resource sedimentology such as the genesis of bauxite research,etc. In summary,these reports closely concerning petroleum and other mineral resources attracted more attention.
