Structural analysis and modeling on the eastern segment of southern margin of Junggar Basin

Abstract There are favorable hydrocarbon elements in the eastern segment of southern margin of Junngar Basin. However,complex tectonic deformation and poor seismic imaging quality make the identification of underground structures difficult. From the typical tectonic integrated analysis based on outcrops,geological-hat,rock physics modeling,artificial electric field sounding of depth-resistivity inversion section and seismic data interpretation,together with drilling result,the skeleton structure-strata and a multi-level detachment thrust nappe model is built for deforming complex zone in the eastern segment of southern margin of Junngar Basin,the method of model-building is discussed to guide the seismic interpretation of strongly-deformed and low image quality structures. The footwall buried structures become favorable target for future exploration. Reference information of the model of structure and characteristic of fault is available for the interpretation of complex deformed area,which providing basis for further oil-gas exploration and well-drilling plan in east part of southern margin. The means of model-building has achieved good results in the evaluation of the target oil-gas exploration in the western segment of southern margin,Junggar Basin.
