Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of Reg Iα expression in esophageal carcinoma and patients′serum. Methods The Reg Iα expression was investigated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry and ELISA.Results Reg Iα mRNA expressed not only in esophageal cancer but also in esophageal mucosa, but REG Iα mRNA expression was higher in cancer than that in esophageal musosa,P<0.001.Reg Iα protein expression was detected in 21 of 40 cancer(52.5%),no expression in esophageal mucosa.REG I protein expression wasn′t related to the infiltration and size of tumor,P>0.05;but had significant relation with tumor differentiation and lymphatic metastasis,P<0.001.The level of Reg Iα expression in the patients serum with esophageal cancer was significantly higher than that in the normal control group,P=0.011 and its level was significantly decreased after esophageal cancer being resected,P=0.03.Conclusion The expression of Reg Iα related to pathological features of esophageal cancer, the levels of Reg Iα in serum related to the existence of esophageal cancer.
