Abstract: Objective To investigate the relation between the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP-2),matrix metalloproteinase 14(MMP-14)in breast cancer and tumor size, differentiation and lymph node metastases. Methods Sixtyeight cases of breast cancer and twentyfour cases of breast benign disease were studied by PV Immunohistochemical staining with anti MMP-2,MMP-14 monoclonal antibodies. Results 1.The expression rates of MMP-2 and MMP-14 were 55.9 %(38/ 68)and 58.8 %(40/68)in breast cancers respectively, they were 25.0%(6/24) and 16.7%(4/24)respectively in breast benign disease. The expression rates were significantly higher than those in breast benign disease(P<0.05);2.Expression of MMP-2 and MMP-14 in breast cancers were positive correlated with axillary lymph node metastases and tumor size(P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-14 closely correlated to lymph node metastasis and tumor size, they can act as prognostic markers of invasion and metastasis for patients with breast cancer.
