Abstract: Objective Expression of midkine (MK) in the laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas (LSCC) tissue were detected in order to probe into the relationship of the high expression of MK with the cervical lymph node metastasis, survival and prognosis of the LSCC.Methods All of samples were sectioned and were carried out by HE staining and MK immunohistochemical staining and MVD values were also detected. Results There was no or less expression of MK observed in 14 cases of the laryngeal normal mucous membrane and 14 cases of the laryngeal papilloma. There were 74.7% MK positive expression in 75 cases of LSCC,including 35 weak positive (+) cases and 21 strong positive (++) cases.MK is related with survival time(P=0.001),MK expression from negative to positive survival time decreased 5.63 times , Multivariate analysis showed that lymph node metastasis and recurrence related,The probability of recurrence with lymph node metastasis without lymph node metastasis was 5.488 times. Conclusion There were high expression of MK in the LSCC.The expression of MK was associated with the cervical lymph node metastasis. The expression of MK in LSCC might serve as an independent indicator for its diagnosis and prognosis.
