Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of glutamine on the healing of colon anastomoses after early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy. Methods Sixty rats were randomized into 3 groups:control group:only colon resection and sutured anastomosis was performed;early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy(EPIC)group:5-Fu(20mg/kg·d)was injected intraperitoneally for 3 days after the operation;glutamine group:the EPIC was given and glutamine(1g/kg·d)was given from mouth for 7 days. All the rats were killed on the 8th postoperative day to investigate the adhesion formation score, the bursting pressure, and the macroscopical examination. Results The adhesion formation score of the early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy group was significantly higer than that of other groups;the bursting pressure of the glutamine group was significantly higer than that of other groups; There was more fibroblast activity in the glutamine group than that in other group(P<0.05).Conclusion Using glutamine can improve the healing of colon anastomoses in the condition of the early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy
