Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression profiles and clinicopathologic parameters of WWOX and STAT3 in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and to study their relationship. Methods 60 clinical HCC samples and paired adjacent normal tissues were assessed by immunohistochemisty staining method for WWOX and STAT3.Results The positive expression rate of WWOX in HCC was 35.00%, which was apparently lower than adjacent normal tissues(70.00%, P<0.05).The positive expression rate of STAT3 in HCC was 71.67%, which was obviously higher than adjacent normal tissues(36.67%, P<0.05).The negative WWOX staining was significantly correlated with clinical stage, diameter of tumor and differentiation of tumor. The positive expression of STAT3 was significantly correlated with blood vessel thrombosis, recurrence of tumor, diameter of tumor and differentiation of tumor. There was a significantly negative relationship of WWOX with STAT3.Conclusion WWOX inactivation and STAT3 overexpression might be involved in carcinogenesis and progression of the HCC.
